Multires For Diablo 2

There are many different Mods available for Diablo II. While installing one of these might often be simple enough, removing the same mod or installing a new mod often causes problems. This is because most mods change many of the already existing game files, and they are often made for different patch versions of Diablo II as well. Many players however wish to have one or more mods installed at the same time, as well as a regular, or 'vanilla', installation of Diablo II intact so that they can play on Battle.net. This guide aims to explain how to do that.

Right click on the diablo shortcut. Find and click 'open file location' 3. Then find 'D2VidTst' (if it works the first time you click it skip to step 10) 4. Right click 'D2VidTst' 5. Go to properties. Then (at the top of properties window) click on the compatibility tab. Install patch v1.11b to Diablo 2 LoD 3. Make shortcut Eps1024x768.exe 4. Run shortcut Eps1024x768.exe with commandline -v111 (activation res 1024x768 for patch v1.11) Install for patch v1.12a: 1. Extract files: Eps1024x768.dll, Eps1024x768.exe and Eps1024x768.mpq to Diablo II directory. Install patch v1.12a to Diablo 2 LoD 3.

Downgrading

Diablo

Many popular mods for Diablo II require different patch versions to run properly. Below is an incomplete list of mods and what patches they work with.

  • Back to Hellfire: Patch 1.10.
  • Battle for Elements: Patch 1.10.
  • Eastern Sun: Patch 1.10. Might work with Patch 1.11 as well, but it is recommended to run on 1.10.
  • Median XL: Patch 1.10, Patch 1.11, Patch 1.12 or Patch 1.13.
  • Zy-El: Patch 1.09d.

In order to run a mod, Diablo II needs to be patched correctly, or the mod will most likely not start at all.

Required files

  • Physical CD for Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Remember, the No-CD patch is only included in Patch 1.12 and above.

Multires For Diablo 2 Necromancer

If you're like me, then you can't get Diablo 2 to work, no matter what you do. All of the solutions on the internet simply did not work for me. However, I've found a universal solution to fix pretty much all of your screen problems. This is for singleplayer only. This will get you banned on Battle.net. One common solution is to run the game through Glide, but I found that it lowers the quality and performance of the game, and fullscreen does not support it, so I do not recommend it.
The Problem:
Black screen with Direct3D, rainbow colors with DirectDraw, low performance and quality with Glide, low resolution
The Solution:
1. Download Diablo II LoD 1.12 (not 1.13). The installer from the Battle.net site will install this.
2. Run D2VidTst.exe (located in the Diablo II folder). Set video mode to DirectDraw [2D].
3. Download D2MultiRes. Extract and place the files in your Diablo II folder
4. Right click D2MultiResGame.exe and click Properties. Select the Compatibility tab and set the program to be in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Also Disable desktop composition and Run this program as an administrator.
5. Create a shortcut to D2MultiResGame.exe. Right click the shortcut and click Properties. In the target field, place a -w at the end of the line. For example, C:Diablo IID2MultiResGame.exe' -w.
6. Download WindowedBorderlessGaming and extract the files anywhere you wish (I recommend the Diablo II folder)
7. Run Diablo 2 through the shortcut you created. It should be in windowed mode.
8. Open WindowedBorderlessGaming.exe, click the program's tray icon and select Add window, press F3 in the game
9. In Diablo 2, enter a singleplayer game and through the ESC menu, select Options > Video Options > Resolution. Select the resolution of your screen.
And there you go, you got Diablo 2 running in fullscreen with absolutely 0 problems. Just as a warning though, it looks a bit different with a higher resolution. It may take some time getting use to, but it's absolutely worth it if it means you can get a running Diablo 2.
If you find any problems, please let me know.
